Master of Puppets
I don't usually give five stars but this was great: colourful and interesting characters, atmospheric setting and very entertaining.
If you've grown bored with your usual police procedural writers, give this one by M. W. Craven a try: it's a perfect blend of realism and more adventurous serial-killer thrills that makes some of the old hands seem a bit plodding by comparison. Though we've seen these types of characters before (esp. the detective with demons) it's just better written than usual with a great seam of dark humour running throughout the book that differentiates it from all the other police procedurals out there. And the jokes are actually funny for a change!
Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
